If you're like me, I don't always have great self-esteem. Like everything in life, it ebbs and flows like the ocean tides. One week I will be absolutely jazzed about what I'm doing, how I'm connecting with others and the progress I am making in life. The next week, I'll beat myself up. "Why did I say that? How stupid are you? What the heck did you do that for?" Sound familiar?
While those thoughts will float into our minds, let's learn how to take control of those thoughts (which are all lies by the way). When a negative feeling or emotion comes up, acknowledge it. Think about how you could have reacted differently, pat yourself on the back, and move on. I hear you saying, "It's not that easy!!!" Well, have you tried it? Once you've brushed the seat of your pants off and let the negativity go, think about what you have learned and what you may do differently next time. Life is about progress. Stop beating yourself up! Right NOW, make a list of everything that is GREAT about you. Don't be shy, put those trivial things in your list. If you're having trouble, ask someone who knows you well what they love about you. Put your list by your bedside, in your car, at your computer. Share 5 to 10 things on your list in a comment to this blog. Celebrate YOU!
