Yesterday, one of my clients called me and was confused about losing weight when it comes to calories and exercise. Her application told her to eat more calories when she exercised. My first and most important question was this: "What are you doing for exercise"? She proceeded to tell me about her activity to which I replied, "Is this something you can stick to forever"? If you are trying to lose weight, ask yourself that question. The truth is most people exercise like crazy to lose weight. Of course, they also decrease their calories and start eating healthier. Hooray for all of this!!! BUT you must have a realistic long-term plan. 85% of people gain their weight back because they are thinking in a "diet" mentality. Here is something to think about. If you currently weigh 200 pounds and then get down to 150, your body requires LESS CALORIES every single day to maintain the new svelt you. FOOD and HEALTHY NUTRITION is the biggest component to weight management. While exercising and being active certainly is a major component to overall health, creating an unrealistic exercise plan is not the way to go. Do yourself a favor, sit down and plan a REALISTIC long-term movement goal AND practice healthy nutrition.
