I HATE exercising!

I HATE EXERCISE – Recently I put out a survey and you’ll never guess what some people said about exercise.  Yup!  I hate it!  As a trainer, I can tell you that I don’t love exercise.  I do love what it does for me and how it makes me feel.  So what is one to do when it is SOOOO difficult to get your butt in gear and move?  Well, here are a few suggestions:

  1. Try something new – How about signing up for a ballroom dance class.  If you’re social, sign up at www.meetup.com and look for hiking and walking groups.

  2. Vigrous gardening and house cleaning! - I just found this out last weekend.  We are putting in a garden, shovelling, hoeing, etc.  My body hurts!!!  LOL  The same goes with vigorous house cleaning.  Put some music on and dig in.  Do it faster than usual to get your heart rate up AND/OR pick a project that requires scrubbing (like cleaning grout).

  3. Again, if you’re social, find a buddy who will commit to do “exercise” with you.  Everything’s more fun with a friend.  Just make sure that you don’t go out for coffee or a glass of wine instead!

  4. Commit to 3 days a week, 30 minutes total per day.  Most people think they need to exercise every day and it’s overwhelming.  Do 20 minutes of any cardio activity, 5 minutes of strength training and 5 minutes of stretching.

  5. Do the little things that add up and make a difference.  Park at the back of the supermarket.  Take the stairs.  Use the farthest bathroom at work and in your home.
